This Skill solves the problem of seamlessly transferring context—such as skills, rules, prompts, commands, and MCP configurations—when migrating AI assistants between IDEs. In real-world development, developers often need to switch from Cursor to Claude Desktop, or migrate from Windsurf to Cline, but manual copy-pasting is not only tedious but also prone to missing credentials, path conflicts, or format incompatibilities, which can cause the new environment to malfunction.
Usage is straightforward: you simply specify the source IDE, target IDE, and migration objects (e.g., skills, rules, prompts, MCP), then run the dry-run command to preview the changes. After confirming everything is correct, execute the formal migration command. The Skill automatically reads the IDE's reference documentation and path mappings, performs security checks, and generates a JSON-formatted migration evidence report.
It is ideal for agent development teams, full-stack developers, and DevOps engineers who need to switch between IDEs. This is especially useful for users who work with multiple AI coding assistants like Cline, Cursor, and Claude Desktop simultaneously, or for collaborative scenarios requiring unified team AI assistant configurations, as it significantly reduces repetitive setup time and human error.
It is recommended to always run a dry-run preview before migrating and carefully review paths containing sensitive information (such as API keys and OAuth tokens), as these will not be migrated automatically. Note that it primarily migrates file-based configurations (like rules and prompts); for UI-managed configurations (such as MCP settings in Claude Desktop), manual reconfiguration is required, as they cannot be directly overwritten.
Key Features
Unlike manual copy-pasting or scattered scripts, it features built-in cross-IDE path mapping, security validation, and conflict detection. It previews changes via a dry-run mechanism before migration, supports various objects like skills, rules, prompts, and MCP, and automatically matches and validates against IDE reference documentation.
Limitations
The current version (0.6.12) only supports migration of IDE configuration files; UI-managed MCP configurations in the Claude Desktop App require manual reconfiguration. It does not support migrating secrets, OAuth session states, chat history, databases, or other runtime metadata.
FAQ
Can this Skill migrate ChatGPT configurations?
Currently, it primarily supports IDEs/Agents like Cline, Cursor, Claude Desktop, and Windsurf. It does not support non-coding assistants like ChatGPT. For a detailed list of supported IDEs, please refer to references/ide-registry.md.
How do I verify that configurations are effective after migration?
After migration completes, a JSON evidence report is generated, and the target IDE's native configuration discovery command is automatically executed for verification. It is recommended to manually check that key configuration items are working.
